The all connectors that are part of the code base are actively rewritten to the new api as
changes are made. The overhaul defect is capturing all changes and has place holders for
rewriting the docs, which will include upgrade notes for connectors in general and for
jdbc.

Returning the metadata id forces the developer to keep track of the runtime metadata
object, when it would be much simpler to return the metadataobject instead.
