And because the protobuf definition can refer to the relationship by a different name than the "getter" method, the foreign key will have its NIS set to the name of the "getter" method so that the correct call can be made. This also required a change to the DDLStringVisitor to add the OPTIONS to constraints, so that the metadata can be imported correctly by designer.
