VIEW_SYNC has been removed, though it was not deprecated in 2.12.1
Document why it was removed, and how can we ensure the same behaviour in 3.0.0
I assume that improvements in MERGE2 make VIEW_SYNC unnecessary, but cannot find any hard
reference justifying the change. Bela?
