After discussions with Emanuel, we decided to allow for this in some cases, e.g. the
parent totally manages the lifecycle of the child. I'll adjust the tests to allow
this.

E.g. extensions and subsystem can be added but subsystems cannot be removed and I
don't see the reason why.
