An issue for this is the deployment scanner detecting partially copied deployments. We
have a nice solution for zips that won't apply for non-zips.
Some quick thoughts:
1) Simple timestamp check; back off if timestamp is too recent. Hopefully the existing
back-off logic can be re-used (I haven't looked.)
2) For xml files, do basic validation of well-formed content. That's essentially what
we're doing with zips; it's just the meaning of "well-formed" is
different.

The only issue with a well formed xml check is that it would only work for documents that
had one root element. If they can have more than one, then there is a rare chance it could
be processed incomplete. AFAIK we don't have anything which has multiple root
elements.
Doing the well formed check is pretty easy. Just setup a SAXParser with no event handlers
and turn validation off.

The issue is detecting "copy-in-progress" files and not trying to deploy them
until that is complete. Deploying partially copied files is poor behavior; it disrupts the
server. I have no interest in trying to do any validation beyond checking that the root
element of the document is properly closed. I'm not particularly wedded to doing that
either.

socket, by customizing the encoder, decoder objects of the Netty channel and route the
contents of InputStream to a temporary file store during the transmission. Perhaps similar
