Remy Maucherat commented on JBWEB-108:
--------------------------------------
The API you suggest seems usable for us, but unfortunately I cannot redo the JSP compiler
in very mature branches of Tomcat. There is more flexibility in JBoss Web, but the
regression risk also makes it impossible to include in the current cycle. I'm
accepting contributions, of course. Another option is to package rename JDT, but it is
also not easy.
We do regularly update JDT (API breakage is now fixed) in both Tomcat and JBoss Web, and
it is now 3.3.3 in trunk of JBoss Web which will be in AS 5 (in the latest Tomcat 6.0.x,
it is also quite recent), so what is the version you would require at the moment ? I
don't understand why you characterize this as "very old".
Please update JDT Compiler or provide a JCI compiler

Tomcat uses a very old version of the JDT Compiler, not supported by the commons JCI
compiler adapter. This means that Drools has to use the Janino compiler, which is not
JDK1.5 compliant. If you where to use JCI itself you would benefit from a pluggable
compiler interface. I'd also recommend not polluting the user classpath space with
tomcat dependencies.
