JBossWeb leaves hung ajp connections with mod_jk
------------------------------------------------
Key: JBWEB-82
URL: http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBWEB-82
Project: JBoss Web
Issue Type: Bug
Security Level: Public (Everyone can see)
Components: Tomcat Module
Environment: Apache 2.2.3, mod_jk 1.2, JBoss 4.2.0.GA
Reporter: Devon Hillard
Assigned To: Mladen Turk
I have a Debian (stable) server which is running Apache 2.2.3, and using mod_jk to connect to my application running within JBoss.
I have been running with this using JBoss 4.0.5 for many months, without issue. I just upgraded to JBoss 4.2.0. Things start off fine, however after running for a while (last night it took 6.5 hours) the mod_jk logs start showing these errors:
Code:
[Wed Jun 06 07:45:00 2007][29336:14016] [error] ajp_connection_tcp_get_message::jk_ajp_common.c (948
): (node1) can't receive the response message from tomcat, network problems or tomcat is down (*MyIP
*:8009), err=-104
[Wed Jun 06 07:45:00 2007][29336:14016] [error] ajp_get_reply::jk_ajp_common.c (1566): (node1) Tomca
t is down or refused connection. No response has been sent to the client (yet)
[Wed Jun 06 07:45:00 2007][29336:14016] [error] ajp_service::jk_ajp_common.c (1928): (node1) Connect
ing to tomcat failed. Tomcat is probably not started or is listening on the wrong port
These errors do NOT happen with each request. They happen perhaps one out of five, although it seems to fluctuate. Most requests work, but many don't. There are NO errors in the JBoss logs. I have tried using 127.0.0.1 and my actual non-loopback IP address and the same thing happens.
I can fix it by restarting JBoss, then everything works, for a few hours at least, before the problem starts up again.
-----------------
More information:
This appears to be related to open connections.
mod_jk was holding connections open to the JBoss web server on 8009, and the number of ESTABLISHED connections kept growing until tomcat started rejecting new connections. Some of the connections would get reused, but not that many.
I set the connection_pool_timeout in the mod_jk config to 10 seconds. This keeps the number of established connections down around 50-60. However, the connections that have timed out of the pool, appear to persist forever.
The connection from the mod_jk TO JBossWeb sticks in FIN_WAIT1 or FIN_WAIT2:
10.10.77.194:57587 10.10.77.194:8009 FIN_WAIT1
The connection view from JBossWeb gets stuck in CLOSE_WAIT:
10.10.77.194:8009 10.10.77.194:57587 CLOSE_WAIT
Once the number of connections hits 1024 (or thereabouts) everything falls apart, of course, and I have to kill -9 jboss and start it up again.
This never happened with JBoss 4.0.5. Apache and mod_jk haven't changed at all, so this has to be a change between Tomcat 5.5 or JBossWeb. I can't be the only person to run into this.....

[JBoss JIRA] Created: (JBRULES-631) Return of serialize/deserialize - HashMap of Compiled Rule Bases.

Return of serialize/deserialize - HashMap of Compiled Rule Bases.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Key: JBRULES-631
URL: http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBRULES-631
Project: JBoss Rules
Issue Type: Bug
Security Level: Public (Everyone can see)
Components: All
Affects Versions: 3.0.1
Environment: Websphere 6.0.
Reporter: Joe Son
Assigned To: Mark Proctor
I'm trying to deserialize hashMap of compiled RuleBases back so that i can use it.
I've tried out different ideas but this one kinda kills me as to why i am getting this error.
It is compiled and serialized during the start up of the webserver (webapp). When the web app is restarted, it uses the same classloader to load the file from the disk.
I get this error below:
Am I getting this because of difference in classloader instances?
say first time around classloader instance A does the serialization. Then when it come time for deserialization during webapp restart, classloader instance B does the desrialize.
Could this cause such error below?
I'm also using JANINO compiler.
Please help.

or similar.
Analysing logs it seems this is because when the server crashed previously it did so and partially committed a transaction, i.e inserted the ref but not the message.
My suspicion is that this is because the MySQL configuration being used is setup to use the non transaction myISAAM storage which has no transaction support. But this needs to be verified.

Can't load classes from expanded class dir on windows

Priority: Minor
When running some JUnit tests of our rules from an Ant task or from
Eclipse, we got the following rule compile errors:
org.drools.rule.InvalidRulePackage: Rule Compilation error
The import com.bricsnet.core.util.constants cannot be resolved
UserGroup cannot be resolved
The same rules compile perfectly on the server.
On the server the class is question is only available from a JAR file.
In Eclipse it in an expanded class dir. In the Ant task both the
expanded class dir and the JAR file were in the classpath, but the
expanded class dir was first. Putting the JAR first on the classpath
solved the problem for the ant task (but this is not possible for
eclipse since the JAR is not available). Therefore we believe the
problem is specifically related to loading from an expanded class dir.
The problem seems to occur on Windows but not Linux.
Finally the problem only seems to occur for some classes.
All 3 of the classes in the sample rule file below are
in the same boat, but for some reason only UserGroup
is a problem (it might be the
Example 1 (fails):

Channel is set to AUTO_GET_STATE even if cache doesn't want initial state transfer
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: JBCACHE-805
URL: http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBCACHE-805
Project: JBoss Cache
Issue Type: Bug
Security Level: Public (Everyone can see)
Reporter: Brian Stansberry
Assigned To: Manik Surtani
The channel should probably only be set to AUTO_GET_STATE if getFetchStateOnStartup() returns true. Otherwise if the node is shunned and reconnects, a full state transfer will occur. Presumably the cache can't or doesn't want to handle that, or getFetchStateOnStartup() would not have returned true.
One problem is what if getFetchStateOnStartup() returns false because the config uses a shared cache loader (so no persistent state transfer) and a cold cache at startup is OK (so no in-memory state transfer). But, following reconnect the cache is no longer "cold" -- the in-memory tree now has potentially stale data.
