With Groovy 1.7.5 on the classpath the following snippet throws a CannotCompileException:

Yes, exactly - the cause of the CannotCompileException is IOException("too much
data").
As I read the code it is imposing a limit on the size of the input stream of 8 * 4096 =
32KB, whereas as I understand it from here
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jvms/second_edition/html/ClassFile.doc.htm... the class
file can be 64KB in length (probably more, as it's only the code_length attribute
that's restricted to 65536, but I can't claim to have understood the spec well
enough to know what that implies).
