The problem is, that stddev is not included in the HSQLDialect, right. But HSQL itself
supports it, at least in the newer versions.

There you can also download a improves HSQLDialect which can handle stddev.
I now this is not nice, but I don't see any way around it, except skipping stddev OR
calculating it by hand, which is quite slow in big history tables...

According to a user in the forum, stddev is not supported in the HSQLDialect on the
hibernate version that comes with jBPM. I have not had the opportunity to verify this.
