Upgrading to jbpm-jpdl-designer-3.1.0.sp1 gives me the following problem:
All my custom aligned/positioned text on all my transitions get reset when re-opening the
process in the designer. They stick to the transition line, and if the transition line is
quite short, the text then overlaps my nodes etc. It looks terrible.
I tried re-positioning all the text again, and saving, but as soon as I close and re-open
my process again, the text is snapped back onto the transition lines, and it looks

re-ordered. My mistake, it's not each time for the nodes, it's each time for the
text positioning. The node positioning problem is intermittent, and has only happened a
few times. However, the text position is every time I re-open.

I have the same problem here.
I had nodes with simular names in my workflow, like "CalculateAmount1",
"CalculateAmount2", ..
So I thought the fact that the first letters are the same is the problem.
I renamed the nodes to "N001CalculateAmount", "N002CalculateAmount",
...
Since I did this the problem disappeared.
But in your example the node-names are completely different.

I've attached the gpd.xml and the processdefinition.xml that caused me the initial
problem. It has been updated quite a bit since the last time I had the problem. The node
placement problem hasn't occured in a while, so I'm not sure what actually causes
it. The same node placement problem happened on a completely different process two days
ago. I haven't noticed any common ground though. And I can't seem to duplicate it
when I want to, only hope that it doesn't happen.
However, the transition text positioning is always a problem. Try placing the text
somewhere, and re-open the process. You'll notice that it doesn't save its
position.

Okay I managed to reproduce the problem with the gpd.xml and processdefinition.xml I
attached above, by doing either one of the following:
- On the graphical designer, delete the end node named "Offer Withdrawn". Then,
add an end node in the same position and give it a transition line from "Withdrawn
Notification" to "Offer Withdrawn", and save. Now close and re-open the
processdefinition.xml in the designer, and all nodes will be messed up. Looking at the
gpd.xml, the new end node has been placed at the bottom. This seems to cause the problem.
OR
- In the gpd.xml, take the line/node "Offer Withdrawn", and move it to the
bottom of the gpd.xml, so it is the last node. Now close and open the
processdefinition.xml with the graphical editor, the nodes will be messed up.
It seems that if an end node is at the bottom of the gpd.xml, it messes up the nodes? Well
at least in this case.

Let me add a more detailed description how I reproduced it:
Open a new process definition, add a start, an end and a task node.
Create a transition from start to end, then from task to end -> exception above.
Commenting the handling of "target" in EdgeGraphicalEditPart.propertyChange()
(in my tree lines 117-119) cures that, but may reopen the issue above.
