The spec doesn't mandate injection of static member variables. In fact, it says,
injection isn't supported for such members (except for application client container).
So this really isn't a bug in AS7 but a bug in the application.

I'd be highly concerned about this "working" in 7.1.2. If it did
"work" it probably was reinjecting the field on every new bean instance, which
is not a good thing.
That said, it could be a reasonable enhancement request to support a non-standard
extension to allow injection into statics on app startup or first use or something, if
reasonable semantics could be sussed out.

It was a bug that this 'worked' in 7.1.2. As David says it would have been
re-injected every time a new bean instance was created.

Yes, initializing queues and connection factories as static members in the given MDB is
not correct. I was just wondering why the given test started to throw npe for
"cf" and "queue" and wasn't sure if it's correct.
Feel free to change this jira to enhancement/feature request in the way as David suggested
