I am working on the DataSource configuration changes for the EAP5 -> EAP6 migration
guide and am following the steps here:

I have been able to successfully install the MySQL JDBC driver as a module, however, I am
not having much luck installing the driver as a deployment, which this document says is
the recommended way to install it.
I've done the following:
- I copied the JDBC-compliant mysql-connector-java-5.1.15.jar (downloaded from the above
web site) into my <jboss7>/standalone/deployments directory.
- I still have the <datasource> and <driver> elements defined in my
standalone.xml file from when I successfully installed the driver as a module.
When I start the server, I see the following error in the log:

Stefano, the WAR is too big to attach. I have successfully emailed it to other developers
though and could email it to you. Let me know if you want me to email it to you.
Do you really need the WAR file? I thought the idea of installing the JDBC Driver as a
deployment was so that it deployed independently of the applications and could be used by
any. I'm getting the deployment for the JDBC driver before it attempts to deploy the
WAR.

The problem is in standalone.xml the <driver> should refer to the driver name.
Driver name is the symbolic name given in standalone.xml for module's deployed driver
("h2" for example) or the jar name for deployed ones. To be sure to use the
correct name you should use the cli and invoke installed-driver-list command on
datasources subsystem. This is the invocation and answer for a configuration very similar
to yours (h2 as module and mysql as deployed):

example above its 5.1, since I am using the 5.1.15 driver from MySQL. It does not support

NPE is not a problem in our code, deployng the pure JCA part (aka just standalone.xml) you
get just the last

remains confusing as of right now. It says "As you can see the datasource references
a driver by it's logical name." However, that's not the case. As far as I can
tell there are two ways to deploy your JDBC driver: drop it into the {{deployments}}
directory and make the <driver> element value equal to the jar's file name, or
make it a "module" by creating a directory structure for it under {{modules}}
and then have the <driver> element's value equal to... something else?
So according to the documentation as I understand it, I should be able to do this once I

It have to match the driver-name. It can be either an unique name provided in the xml if
it is provided as module and defined in the xml, but the name is the jar name if you have
hot deployed it.
Please note that hot deployment does not permit to specify neither a symblic name nor a
driver-class-name nor vesrsion and so on. All the attribute are taken from jar inspection,
so the name can't be anything else than jar name. Moreover there are some attribute
(droiver-xa-datasource-class-name) that results undefined since they could not be derived
during inspection.
I'm closing this isssue, open a more specific one if you need some changes to the
current implementation. I'll evaluate if they are doable.

guide and am following the steps here:

I have been able to successfully install the MySQL JDBC driver as a module, however, I am
not having much luck installing the driver as a deployment, which this document says is
the recommended way to install it.
I've done the following:

web site) into my <jboss7>/standalone/deployments directory.
- I still have the <datasource> and <driver> elements defined in my
standalone.xml file from when I successfully installed the driver as a module.
