JBoss Tools L10n - help wanted!

G'day,
I've been working on some translation infrastructure for JBoss Tools.
I'm pleased to report that we've already got some Japanese translations
for JBoss Tools, courtesy of a contribution by Shinobu Nogami. Any help
with reviewing, correcting, or completing these translations would be
appreciated! Translations for other languages would be great too.
My build scripts for jbosstools-l10n use Tennera Ant-Gettext to convert
between .properties files (ResourceBundles) in the Java source code and
Gettext PO/POT files. A bit like Translate Toolkit's prop2po but with
one important difference: an entire directory tree of properties files
can be reduced to a single POT file (not a tree of POT files).
I hope this will make life easier for translators, since dealing with
hundreds of .properties files is hard enough in a good developer's IDE.
From what I've seen, the open source translation editors just aren't
that good at dealing with lots of small files efficiently. I'm not
familiar with any commercial translation tools, but I don't think many
of them would edit .properties files directly - they would convert to
another file format, or a database).
PO files have their flaws, but they're still a big improvement over
.properties for L10n purposes, and they are what the Red Hat L10n team
mostly uses in current translation workflows (as I understand it).
Anyway, the POT templates for JBoss Tools 3.1, and also the Japanese PO
files, are currently living in a Mercurial repository here:
http://bitbucket.org/seanf/jbosstools-l10n/ (Obviously, that's not meant
to be the permanent location! And I'm not married to Mercurial, though
having a DVCS would be nice.)
Ultimately, I suggest these particular translations should probably live
somewhere like this:
http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jboss-l10n/jbosstools/3.1 [or maybe
.../trunk]
But where to host them is the subject of my other post...

I think in the start this is mainly a list to bring together those that are interested in localisation & translation of JBoss related projects and products.

Myself and another developer in our team are developing a Seam/Hibernate/Richfaces-based application - named 'flies' until someone comes up with a better name - to support translators, initially targeted at JBoss and internal RH translation work.

Within flies, translators will be able to collaborate with each other and organize themselves in communities such as 'Seam translators' and cross-community language/locale-oriented 'tribes'. We hope to evolve flies to support not only documentation and UI translations, but also web content from the various JBoss related sites, perhaps by exposing an API to push/pull content from the flies 'translation repository'.
We hope to have a pilot documentation-project running in flies by 1st June, and incrementally expand it from there. Collaboration, comments, ideas and contributions are very welcome.
Flies is a push in a slightly different direction to e.g. transifex, which has emerged from a 'web ui for submitting files to a version control system' rather than a translation workflow tool. Flies is much more like Launchpad Translations and e.g. Pootle in this sense. ..And definitely much closer to home.

I'm totally unsure about the purpose of this ML, so I can be totally
off-topic but I'll try anyway.
Anyway, have someone looked at simplifying help for translating our
projects and using an infrastructure like:

best I know)
- https://translate.fedoraproject.org/tx/ (Transifex) (Which isn't as
good but closer from home)

Hosting JBoss translations

Hello world!
I'm a Java developer on the Red Hat i18n team. I've been working on
some translation infrastructure for JBoss Tools, but I'll bore you with
that in another email.
I'd like to suggest that we set up a version control repository for all
jboss-l10n, including JBoss Tools. Maybe a wiki too.
That way, the jboss-l10n team can choose/change its own file formats
(Gettext, XLIFF, whatever), and keep such decisions completely isolated
from the projects' source code repositories. We could manage commit
access for translators ourselves. We could even replace the VC
repository with a real translation database without having to touch, or
break, anyone else's build.
The problem is, I'm not sure jbosstools-l10n will fit the standard JBoss
governance model, so getting hosting on jboss.org might take a while.
It's not a development project in the usual sense. Has someone tried to
get a jboss.org project started for this?
Perhaps we should just set up on SourceForge initially; I gather quite a
few JBoss projects started there, and I don't think sf.net cares too
much about governance models. Plus we can use a real wiki, not
Clearspace! Maybe even a DVCS, if we want to.
Any opinions or suggestions? (We've currently got eight subscribers to
this list, so there should be at least 10 opinions!)
