Tracked this down to a combination of: * https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBMESSAGING-1456 * One of the consumers was not properly started by our code, but yet still received messages, just didn't appear to consume them on the server side! Fixed by updating JBM to 1.4.4.GA, with a patched version of JBoss Remoting 2.5.1 to include JBREM-1112, and corrected our code.
