Thanks, nbelaevski for pointing out how code outside the container can't synchronize on the session, only the facade. And thanks Scott for running with this. The concern I have is StandardSession.facade is not thread safe, and what's returned from getSession() needs to be if we are going to use it as a mutex. There's no ref to facade outside StandardSession.getSession(), so ClusteredSession can override the getSession() method and replace the field with a volatile field and synchronize the construction if null. [Performance Tuning] - Re: About the UseParallelOldGC

I have a quad-core and for my testing I used a 1GB heap (I did not specify a young gen size, but I believe the JVM never set it to more than 100M). When using multiple tenured GC threads the JVM splits the tenured generation into sections and lets each thread clean its own section to minimize contention. So I had 4 thread cleaning about 200MB each. You, or course, had 8 threads so your lock-contention is higher. But I read a very interesting paper the other day regarding cache coherency between L2 caches in the CPUs that caused a significant performance drop when running a multi-threaded app, so I'm wondering if that could be a reason. Of course, I'd need VTune to track that down. I have a clean install of jboss 5.1.0.GA Installed from jboss-5.1.0.GA-jdk6.zip Deleted hsqldb-ds.xml Copied mssql-ds.xml from examples and edited to correct server name and DefaultDS for Jindi name. Deleted hsqldb-persistence-service.xml and replaced with mssql-persistence-service.xml Jboss starts with no logged errors. No tables are created in the MS SQL database. Double checked the mssql-persistence-service.xml true Double checked user rights in the MS SQL server and that ports were open/responding. I was under the impression that there was a thread pool for JBM underneath the JCA pool, and that the clientMaxPool setting in the documentation is how you configure that. Inside the AS container, a MDB's connection to JBM is handled by JCA layer, which has its own pooling of connections. JBM_clientMaxPool is not about connection pool, it's about thread pool size at the remoting client side.
