I agree we should use BLOB/CLOBs as the default and use the chopping only as needed. I don't even think we will find a *current* database/driver combination that does not support LOBs right. The four databases in continuous integration with jBPM 3 (HSQLDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Sybase) have no problem with CLOBs. Just thought of this: Freemarker and velocity both seem to be supporting JSR223 : https://scripting.dev.java.net/ So they will actually fit right inside the scripting support that we already have and that binds variable to the process execution context. Wouldn't it be possible to reuse the perspective concept as it is used in Eclipse? A perspective is a set of views/editors/actions/menu items that is configurable. A user can always change it, but there is a fixed default. Users can also define their own perspectives. The target roles would then all have one particular perspective. To sum up the real situation - It is not a real hack, since it is mostly what seam also does in their mock - It works OUTSIDE an appserver, so standalone (that was the whole idea of the bootstrapping) - A large use base of jBPM comes from seam users - There is a templating mechanisme for email within JBoss, don't let JBoss become a second Apache Foundation (having a second workflow solution is already weird) - Seam is not needed at all (yes there is some code duplication then, but if a seam mail subproject is created with some patches I have in mind, then probably one small jar is needed from seam - No need to learn 101 things (as Pete states) - the JBoss Tools html designer can be leveraged to design the mail in a wysiwyg way - Using it is as simple as | StandaloneFacelets sf = StandaloneFacelets.init(); | Facelet f = sf.getFacelet("/myTemplate.xhtml"); | Stringwriter sw = new StringWriter(); | f.apply(ctx, sw); | Or whatever API is interesting..... btw, i started wednesday evening and i just finished the first results of that work: * process instances and activity instances are now recorded * avg duration per nodes part of the api * for choice activities like decision, state and tasks, the distribution of how many times each transition is selected can be queried with one api method queries based on task assignee will also be possible. any good ideas ?
