We don't just simply redirect to the start page after a login, we do everything we can to make sure that a login doesn't interrupt existing conversations or redirect the user away from the current page (and form!). This involves resetting the persistence context and making sure that caches and all state is updated with the (raised) privileges. This mapping necessary because we index the createdBy and lastModifiedBy usernames with Hibernate Search. When the users lastLogin timestamp is updated during login, Hibernate Search has to update all the documents/comments created by that user because the user instance was modified. It's not smart enough to know that only the timestamp is updated, not the username.
