Specifically <pdf:documentStore useExtensions="true" /> seems to have been refactored and needs to be <pdf:document-store use-extensions="true" /> Additionally, the filter definition seems to be no longer required (the itext example project does not have it in web.xml) so remove <filter> <filter-name>Seam Servlet Filter</filter-name> <filter-class>org.jboss.seam.servlet.SeamServletFilter</filter-class> </filter> <filter-mapping> <filter-name>Seam Servlet Filter</filter-name> <url-pattern>*.pdf</url-pattern> </filter-mapping> I would also recommend in section 16.1, which specifies the jars required to support pdf generation, explicitly include jcommon.jar and jfreechart.jar. The exceptions from not having those jars in the path are relatively difficult to understand.
