Hi, Thanks for your input, it's been realy helpfull! I'm currently prototyping a solution with hibernate filters. http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4045495 has been helping me with getting the information together from the many documentation sources :-) (hibernate core, annotations, entityManager, seam, etc.) The problem I'm facing now is that i've got two entityManagers configured in components.xml, one of them uses the filters. Befor a user's login, of cource I need the standard entityManager. During authentification, I can set the parameter for the filter -> But then... How do I set the FilteredEntityManager as the default for this session? The solution that is provided in the post that I linked above consists in overriding the PersistenceContextName for every entityList Class. I don't think that this is an optimal solution. I would prefer to set the percistenceContext name in the authentification method once and for all right after setting the filter parameters... any hints on how this can be done? Thank you! [JBoss Seam] - Trying to understand how Seam Data Binding updates the model

I have been unable to find a good explanation or example of how Seam Data Binding works on the Update side - the U in CRUD - in either the Seam docs, or Michael Yuan's recent Seam book. That is: How does data in a web page update fields in a Model object? It seems most of the examples in the docs and book are Create and Read CRUD operations. I couldn't find any where a model object is sent to bound editable fields on a page, and changes to those fields are sent back to update the model on submit. It seems to be implied by the claim that Seam lets EJBs/POJO back JSF components, yet examples & further discussion seem lacking? Also, how is custom binding of non-simple types (ie not ints, Strings, booleans), or multiple input fields -> 1 model field, supported? as per JSF? We build alot of business apps in my workplace where editing model objects is routine, and data binding makes it so much easier. Any URLs or Refs to examples appreciated. I should have explained, the log line I pasted in my first post came from server.log. We disable console logging so I was looking at a tail of server.log Are you sure about the logging category snippet? When I add it to my log4j config file I get: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.jboss.mx.loading I enabled the verbose setting on the aop service - however today everthing starts up fine! I'm not sure whats going on as the process of deploying the appserver and then deploying the application is scripted. I'll keep an eye on it and if I can get something repeatable then I will post again. Thanks for your help.
