I fixed my problem today! :-) My EAR contains a jndi.properties file (it's also used for clients). The error occurs if the java.naming.provider.url property doesn't point to localhost. [JBoss Web Services Users] - vfs problems with jboss web service

Hi Everyone. I get a very strange error when I try to deploy my ear application. I use the following versions of software: JBoss AS 5.0.0GA seam 2.1.2GA Richfaces 3.3.1GA JBossWS 3.2.0GA My ear is organized as follows: Soko-ear |-----------> soko-beans |-----------> soko-web soko-beans consissts of my EJBs and I use seam as the component model. Without any web service file in soko-beans, the ear gets deployed and the application is browsable. But if I create a POJO, annotate it @WebService (and its methods with @WebMethod) ....and effectively signal to seam and jboss that I need a webservice deployed, the ear never gets successfully deployed. First, that class worked perfectly and it does keep you logged in. Thanks again for the help Wolfgang. Second, I'd just like to complain (not to you, just to the internet in general) that I've been trying to figure out how to do this on and off for about 3 months now, and all I had to do was add 2 lines of code. WTF!? Why did this not show up in any of the dozens of searches I did? Anyway, for anyone looking for the answer, just use the WebAuthentication class that Wolfgang mentioned. Eclipse monitors the ports opened by JBoss AS to determine if the app server is running (I think it gets the server mbean and asks for the state). If you change the ports that JBoss AS uses, or if you change the -b run option to bind to something other than localhost, Eclipse will not be able to tell if the app server started successfully. You can edit the eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.jst.server.generic.jboss_1.6.1.v200904151730/servers/jboss42.serverdef file to change the ports used by Eclipse to monitor the app server. You can check that the datasource was properly deployed by using the jmx-console - look in the jboss.jca namespace - you will see several mbeans for your datasource.
