There was a brief off-line discussion on the topic of adding the ability to specify lock-types externally (maybe via Options) such that Hibernate could simply request that "this put only acquire a read lock". Here's the key point:

+1 on a separate method. I'm the one who raised the original Option idea, but I think now that was wrongheaded. The term "Hibernate 2nd level cache" makes the use case sound specialized, but really it's one of the basic use cases for JBC -- read from database, then write to cache to avoid future reads. Programming for that use case needs to be dead simple; having to deal with Options is too much.

[JBossWS] - WSDL issue???

Hi,
I've an ejb3 exposed as web service in JBOSS 4.0.4GA patch1. I return an object as follows from the web service.
public class A
{
String[][] strArray1;
String[][] strArray2;
String[][] strArray3;
public A()
{
}
..getters and setters here...
}
It is generating the WSDL. But when I call the method, i get an argument mismatch error.
JBOSS is sending the SOAP message, but on the client side, it is failing to create an object.
If I wrap the arrays inside another object, it works. In this case the return object will look like
public class A
{
MyArray array1;
MyArray array2;
MyArray array3;
public A()
{
}
..getters and setters here...
}
where MyArray is
public class MyArray
{
String[][] value;
public MyArray()
{
}
..getters and setters here.
}
Any idea why this difference in behavior? Why should I have to wrap a 2 dimensional array with another object ??

[JBoss Portal] - UserImpl needs to implement serializable??

Hi,
I am trying to build a set of portlets that can start a JBPM process. However, as specific processes can only started by certain roles, I had to add a table that maps the roles and the JBPM Processes. However, when I run this query, it throws an NonSerializable exception saying that org.jboss.portal.identity.UserImpl needs to be serializable. Now I know that I could just change UserImpl to be serializable (yay open source), but I think this might be a symptom of a deeper problem. For the life of me however, I cannot seem to find out what it would be.
I am running JBoss Portal 2.4 on JBoss 4.0.4GA

[JBoss Portal] - Portal memory consumption question

Hi,
I am evaluating JBoss Portal and portlets technology in general to see if fulfills my needs.
My current project is a web-portal with thousands of hits per second and it will be composed of many servers in a cluster. I am wondering about the usage of memory JBoss Portal performs, since to work in a cluster it needs to replicate the sessions and I guess that if portlets store too many things in the session, this approach (portlets, JBoss, etc.) gets quite inefficient.
What I would like to know:
- How much portlet infrastructure is present on each user session (things that I have to multiply for the number of open sessions, maybe window states, preferences, etc.)?
- Are there shared singletone portlet infranstructure objects common to all sessions?
