[EJB/JBoss] - EJB 3 : stateful problem

I'm trying to get a simple EJB 3.0 Stateful bean example working in JBoss. I've managed to get my example working using Stateless EJB : Simple Servet --> Stateless EJB --> retrieves some EJB Entity, saves a few bytes to the database and keeps a reference to the saved entity When the EJB is declared with a @Stateless decoration, everything seams to be working as expected : I see my log message in EJB initialization displayed everytime a new client connects. When I use @Stateful (which should be used since I want to maintain a reference to a session entity), I see that a new instance is created each time I access the EJB. Any idea what can be wrong ? This is getting away from the original subject of this post... so it may be worth putting this conversation in a new post. The application I deployed used the in-memory database. There was no need to use a full blown relational database. So this eventually became a non-issue. There is a lot of useful information in this forum. During my reviews of many posts, I could identify general threads of needs and information through different posts. It would be really cool if the search function had a way of consolidating information based on the questions asked. So someone can come in asking a question and get the posts that would be most appropriate. This is in contrast to a search that returns posts based on keyword matches. Ok, I see the twiddle tab, I tried --username=admin --password= that I set during the installation. this did not fix it. I placed these in the "Program Args" text box that contained -S in the twiddle tab. Is that correct? I got it to work by setting the timeout lower, but that seems like a hack, and I'd rather have twiddle working... Without knowing the architecture of your application it's a little hard to provide guesses as to what the bottleneck could be. It could, for example, be network roundtrips if you are making very large numbers of fast database requests to a remote database machine. It could be thread synchronization bottlenecks, etc. A useful rough profiling technique is to get a dump of what all the threads in your application are doing: see http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=StackTrace (and follow the "jmx-console" link if you are using recent JBoss). By examining the stack trace, you should be able to see what your application threads are doing most of the time. While your server is starting, it gets polled over and over (via twiddle) to see if it's done yet. If you have your server secured with username / password combinations, and your server's launch configuration on the twiddle tab does not designate a username or password, then the polling will fail until timeout.
