[Beginners Corner] - A Question about Securing Web Services

I'm trying to modify an existing application that uses JBoss Application Server 4.0.3, and I find myself confused about how to secure web services with Basic Authentication. The AS documentation says all I need is a web-service.xml document, and that's all I have, but the only tutorial I found on securing web services wants edits to jboss.xml and ejb-jar.xml. There are no ejb-jar.xml or jboss.xml files anywhere to be found. I figure I can add the security policy to the application's login-config.xml easily enough, but I have no idea how to tell JBoss to use that policy for the web service only. What am I failing to understand? Thanks for any help! While we're on barriers, the documentation seems to suggest that a singleton barrier mbean will have it's 'create' method called at system startup, deferring the 'start' method call until the node becomes the master. I'm not seeing my create method get called until the node becomes master either. Which way is it supposed to work? Thanks. What would happen if I just changed the multicast address and left the partition name alone? I'm using EJB3 beans, which define the partition name with a @Clustered annotation. Will it work if I do this? @Clustered(partition="${jboss.partition.name:DefaultPartition}") Since my code must be identical in both environments, I need the partition name to be defined in the container setup (a -D flag is perfect). As part of the LoginProvider framework, if we could have some generic interface that lets us tuck away name/value bits of info, I think it'd be useful (we can then save off info like Windows Domains, securID tokens, etc.). It'd also be useful if we could get/set http cookies via that interface (e.g., "set cookie for your SSO domain"). The use case for the latter case would be: multiple web server types in same domain. You login to one web server, which injects a cookie into your web browser. You then hit another web server in your domain, and that web server can use that cookie for validation. It's a somewhat crude way to do an SSO-like or remember-me-like login. If I understand correctly, the SAML token does this in a similar way, but I don't know if you can map from a SAML token to valid authentication information on each web server easily so that your web app on the second server is logged in properly (your LoginProvider seems to depend on a username/password). I guess it'd really help if there's an example that shows how SSO works in a "remember me" type of application... To isolate you only have to change two: Partition Name - uniquely identifies membership group (see JGroups docs and/or Jboss admin guide) Multicast Address - IP JGroups will use to multicast (more info in JBoss admin guide) If those values are the same on two nodes that are on the same subnet, they will join into a cluster. Testing some possibilities i found an information that can help to point the cause of problem. 1. My application is scoped and javaToParentDelegation is set to false | <-- jboss-app.xml --> | <jboss-app> | <loader-repository> | peixoto.com.br:loader=pxtcore001.ear | <loader-repository-config>java2ParentDelegation=false</loader-repository-config> | </loader-repository> | </jboss-app> 2. Removing the jboss-app.xml descriptor from ear the Datasource came up ok, but the application does´t work because commom libraries used by my applications are in the scoped classloader. Create an scope for our common libraries and the applications helps us to avoid problems when diferent versions of libraries are incompatible, so we cannot use the default classloader to all applications. Any sugestion? I copied the object name from the log output : I just tried packaging in a sar but I get the same result. I have actually been playing with a barrier mbean as well to find a work-around for this issue. What I did is move all of my par's, dependent ear's, and the datasource definition into a different (i.e. made up by me) deploy directory. Then when my mbean is 'started' I call on the main deployer to deploy that directory, and vice-versa when 'stopped'. This all seems to go cleanly. Do you see any issues with such an approach? Honestly, I thought this approach would have led to the same problems, but I tried it as a first step... the next step would have been to stage the deploy and undeploy in separate directories, in dependency order.
