i have a similar error, but no such mappedBy error. i have defined the fetchtype as lazy and i get this error when i try to get the value of isEmpty or iterator. the object is detatched. In fact it is serialized out through the local interface. i had initialized the collection data member to an empty array list, but i still get this error. How can i initialize this collection before returning? Please note i do not want to populate the collection yet with all its actual entries. i am using jboss with ejb3, but i do not have spring framework. i have seen some postings regarding OpenSessionInViewFilter to be added to web.xml. do i have to do that? I resolved the issue. The problem was I was deploying the webservice in JBoss 4.0.3. The default WS implementation that ships with jboss 4.0.3 does not work with jbossws-1.0.4.GA. So when you are running clients from jbossws-samples-1.0.4.GA be sure to include the following jars from 4.0.3/client: axis-ws4ee.jar | commons-discovery.jar | jboss-ws4ee-client.jar | | This is probably becauce the WS mechanics are different in both versions, so if you run a client that uses new libraries to call a service deployed in an older version it won't work. May be it was pretty obvious but it didn't struck me. [EJB 3.0] - @NamedQuery and setting orderBy as a parameter?

Lets say you have a ton of records in a content table, and a lot of criteria to determine appropriate content. How would you specify the orderBy and sort on a @NamedQuery, say as a parameter or by overriding the default orderby etc. ? I know i can annotate a bunch of @NamedQuery's but do I have to go and do the same huge query for every different orderBY and sort ? This will end up with at least 8-columns x 2 (asc|desc) = 16 named-queries, then if we alter the criteria, add another 16 named-queries. Its cr8zy. It just seems to be begging for this simplicity: Query q = em.createNamedQuery("findHottestContent"); | q.setParameter("orderBy", "viewsWeekly desc"); | Too many records to just load into a collection and post-sort like most documentation suggest doing, thats why there is an "order by" clause in SQL, thats what databases are good at. I know I can do a native query but then I end up with cache issues. Any ideas or coming patches to solve this? Hi there, I was trying to deploy my application on the jboss 4.0.5 GA, and am getting an javax.management.MBeanException. ERROR [org.jboss.ejb.txtimer.GeneralPurposeDatabasePersistencePlugin](main) Cannot create timer table And further on deployment get the following error WARN [org.jboss.ejb.txtimer.DatabasePersistencePolicy](main) Unable to get timer handles for containerId: jboss.j2ee:jndiName=SimpleCache,service=EJB java.sql.SQLException: Table not found in statement [select * from TIMERS] Not sure if there is a configuration required for the app server to create the Timer table. Will be good to know if there is any pointers or help around this. Thanks!!
