do I understand you correctly that using @DataModel won't impact the interface of the session bean for swing clients? In other words swing clients will use the exact same session bean interface as JSF. Yes you can use it to call Javabean components. At the moment remoting is pretty much only used for AJAX, but there's no reason why you couldn't use it from a Swing app for example. OK - looks like I will have to solve this one myself. Turns out that I needed to specify this additional field in my datasource descriptor (ms-sql.ds).  <check-valid-connection-sql>select top 1 name from sysobjects with (nolock)</check-valid-connection-sql> This is apparently called before a pooled connection is used, if it fails (say because the connection is closed!!!!) - then the connection is released and a new one is used. Thus - I can now reset my database server without my JBoss application dying a horrible horrible death. Fantastic! As of this post I am happy to anounce that jbossws-1.2.1.GA is released. This implementation supports both JAX-WS and JAX-RPC style web services. With this release we provide full JAXWS functionality. It runs on jboss-5.0.x, jboss-4.2.x, jboss-4.0.5, Tomcat. JAX-WS brings to web services what EJB3 brings to EJB. With its greatly simplified programming model and functional enhancements it is desigend to take the place of previous JAX-RPC web service implementations.
