If you are using EJB3 I recommend using a persistence.xml file. such as... <persistence-unit name="metadata"> <jta-data-source>java:/it</jta-data-source> org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence </persistence-unit> In your ejb instead of trying to create a jdbc connection use the annotation in your ejb @PersistanceUnit(unit="metadata") EntityManagerFactory factory in your method you can access the query object such as EntityManager em = factory.createEntityManager Query query = em.whatYouNeedToDo... sounds to me like you are not calling session.flush() if you are using CMT or you are not calling commit() for BMT. [Beginners Corner] - Executing code upon deployment

What's the best way to execute some code upon deployment. I need to do a bit of validation on some data in the database each time my application is deployed or started. I know of one way to do this: use the service architecure of jboss (@Service) I don't really like this solution as it is JBoss specific. Is there another way? Could the EJB Timer service be used somehow? If so, how would I automatically get the timer fired? Can that be setup in a descriptor file? Thanks. Note that pages defined in pages.xml don't have to be real pages, you can use the render element inside a page element to render something else than the name specified. [JBoss Seam] - Re: seam-gen vs. Oracle CHAR(n) and FLOAT

Anybody? Recap: CHAR(n) in Oracle aren't usable currently (unfortunately I can't change the schema). Seam-gen maps it as a String, which fails during deployment. I tried changing the entity field to char[] but that also fails during deployment. It always expects the database field to be VARCHAR for some reason. [JBoss Seam] - Re: seam cannot reference EJB, why?

I solved the problem now. The solution is to use EAR and package the jboss-seam.jar library in the EAR instead of deploying JAR and WAR without an EAR and having jboss-seam.jar twice. The actual implementation of Seam does NOT support the separation of Web container and EJB container. When using Seam, they must be collocated and the deployment must be done with EAR. The J2EE spec allows you to deploy EJB and Web artefacts independently but Seam deployment restricts you to EAR deployment only, and moreover forces the EJB and Web part to share the Seam library in a common class loader. I hope this is only an implementation issue and not conceptual. I didn't found any note on that. Unfortunately. This restriction has severe consequences, not only on packaging for a single application server but naturally also on different app servers: Seam does NOT support remote EJB. I didn't found any note on that too. Perhaps I missed some documentation... Bottom line: YOU HAVE TO PUT THE JBOSS-SEAM.JAR IN THE EAR FILE AND NOT IN THE JAR AND WAR FILES.
