Have you tried reading the classloading FAQs on the WIKI? I guess not since you don't reference them. All the behaviour you are describing is expected (as far as I can understand your explanation from the information provided) i.e. the usual duplicate classes, servlet style classloading and partial scoping problems. The only way I know of how to do it is by generating the Excel data in an action method using one of the available Java Excel Frameworks. I want to add a message to a control in a datatable. with FacesMessage.add(xxx) it's not possible, because I have to define the id of the component, not the client Id. Therefore I can not specify in which row of the dataTable the rendered component is, where the facesMessage belongs to. I have to use a method, which has the clientId, not the id. you can see which version of JBossWS is loaded at startup of JBoss. I should look something like this: INFO [ServiceEndpointManager] jbossws-1.2.1.GA (build=200704151756) That's the message from JBoss-4.2.0.GA/ distribution, so I think you are also using this one.
