[JBoss Seam] - How to not propagate conversations??

Hello,
after a couple of months of continuous work with Seam, I today figured out that I still did not completely understand concepts of conversations and their propagation.
I have an application with a start page (rendered using an EVENT scoped bean) and three pages which are conversation scoped. All of this three have an "Ok" and a "Cancel" button which lead back to the start page.
Every page is embedded in a template which renders a menu on top. From that menu, you can reach any of the four pages. Clicking on the menu shall cancel the page currently displayed.
There are three conversation scoped beans for the three pages. Any of them has a @Create @Begin method to start it's conversation. The action methods for Ok and Cancel are marked as @End.
For the menu, I want to use rich:dropDownMenu, but have the same problem if I use s:link. I have marked every menu entry with

Then I put a breakpoint on bean constructor and on @Remove methods and clicked around in my menu.
Clicking the buttons works absolutely fine. Beans are created and destroyed exactly when I expect them to be.
But clicking around in the menu has strange results. The beans get never destroyed when expected, beans get reused sometimes and so on.
A propagation of "none", however, works like expected. New conversations are started every time, and the old ones hang around unused until timed out. But this is not what I want - in fact, I want to cancel the conversation when the menu is selected. This isn't unusual, I think, so I am sure I am doing something completely wrong, or?

It seems to work just as well by using the conversation scope, with less code and, of course, a smaller footprint.

Using it like this though, doesn't require the ScopeType.PAGE at all, which was what I originally wanted.
Is this kind of situation just not applicable to using the PAGE scope? If not, when would we use it?

[EJB 3.0] - Multiple @ManyToMany Relationships to the Same Entity

I am having a problem, which I believe may be due to a bug, where having multiple @ManyToMany relationships to the same entity is causing BatchUpdateExceptions.
Example Entities:
Television: a television set
Channel: a television channel
television->sportsChannels: ManyToMany between Television and Channel
television->familyChannels: ManyToMany between Television and Channel
When persisting a television (regardless of if there are any channels in either collection) I get a batch update exception as follows.

[JBoss Seam] - Component Architecture instead of traditional Layers

Hi,
I have searched this forum but did not found answers to my questions regarding architectural patterns (pro/cons). The examples are to simple for my taste.
Coming from the traditional J2EE pattern oriented software development with Session Facades, DTO's, DAO's, ServiceLocator I dream a bit from a simplified architecture and I hope this becomes true.
What I want to do:
I have a dozen of losely coupled seam components (session beans) which are the foundation of my application besides the entity beans. For example, I have a customer component which provides services for customers like load current logged in customer, change the customers personal data. Then I have another computer component which manages the computer infrastructure of a customer like adding a computer, add RAM to the computer. But this computer needs a customer to manage its computer items. I like to inject into the computer component the customer component. I hope this is enough to describe my architecture - SOA like.
Are there problems to expect with this architecture like
| a) Injecting stateful session beans into other stateful session beans?

| b) Are there any problems regarding the different seam scopes like CONVERSATION and long running CONVERSTAION scopes beans?

| c) Any patterns to avoid or seam annotations like @Create or @Factory?

| If you can share any insights into your experience whould be very helpful. I am breaking my head philosophize about component architectures with seam or using seam components with a DAO-Layer and Entity Beans. In the near future, there is probably another client (Netbeans RCP) than JSF/Facelets.

[EJB 3.0] - Entity Inheritence Bug?

I'm on a project that has a base class entity, HistoricalEntity, that is extended when we want an entity that keeps track of its changes. This entity is extended by several other, sometimes unrelated, entities.
Although everything works, Hibernate generates some extremely long sql queries when it doesn't need to. As a result, performance is really poor. From what I can tell, when accessing a getter to another entity, the sql joins all talbes related to all of HistoricalEntity's subclasses rather than just the one we are working with.
Entities:
UserProfile: a user's profile, has lots of information about the user, we'll only discuss the important parts of it for now
OtherExperience: denotes a generic type of experience (like non-professional experience for a resume)
UserProfile has an @OneToMany relationship with OtherExperience
When OtherExperience does not extend HistoricalEntity, calling UserProfile.getOtherExeperiences() generates the following SQL (as expected):
