[EJB 3.0] - Other side of relationship not updating

Hopefully I can convey my issue with out posting 1000 lines of code.
I am using Jboss 4.0.4.GA.
My programming situation is as followings
Swing Application -> Stateful Session Bean -> Entity Manager -> DB
I have a Object structure as follows:
CommittedMap -- InvoiceQty -- InvoiceLine ---Invoice
I have a Stateful session bean InvoiceFactoryBean.
Which will create a Invoice and leave it open in a transaction for
further modification.
When adding a InvoiceLine which contains a InvoiceQty it does not appear
to update the CommittedMap side of the relationship.
To put it in simple terms if I do the following:
public void addInvoiceLine(Interger qty, CommittedMap map) {
InvoiceQty iqty = new InvoiceQty(qty,map);
InvoiceLine line = new InvoiceLine();
line.addInvoiceQty(iqty );
invoice.addInvoiceLine(line);
em.persist(invoice);
}
The invoice qty will not show on the committed map.
I am sure it would if I committed the transaction I am in, but
that defeats the purpose of what I am trying to do.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
If so how did you work around this?

Your max perm gen setting is 128m, but only 16m has been allocated and only 8m is in use. Do you redeploy applications often? That is what usually causes the need for a larger perm gen. If so, leave it at 256m, it is good insurance.
Looking at the heap usage, ignore the first gc - it is one that jbossas forces during startup. Actually, about the first dozen gcs can be ignored because they are all startup related. Looking at the last gc, almost all of the objects in the young generation were collected (less that 1mb of the objects survived the collection). I suspect that the young generation, currently set at 179m, is too big. And the overall heap size of 2.6gb is way too big - you are using all of 200mb of it.
Replace the -Xms and -Xmx with these settings:
-Xms600m -Xmx600m -XX:MaxNewSize=100m -XX:NewSize=100m
If that causes the old generation to fill up too quickly, increase everything:
-Xms800m -Xmx800m -XX:MaxNewSize=150m -XX:NewSize=150m
Also, gather the gc data using only -verbose:gc and plot the data. Looking at the plot of the graph will give you a better idea of how to adjust the heap settings.

[JBossWS] - Yet another WS-Security question ...

Although those really helped me getting things started, I could not get security running.
I have 2 services that need to have an encryption/sign options. I decided to do this using certificates.
One of the services, is a pure JSR-189 WS:

The other, is a bit trick since I've implemented the WSDL from a top-down approach, and it was hand created. But, I can't get even this one working :(
I have a jar, with jboss-wsse-server.xml, ServerHandler, csm.keystore, csm.truststore inside its META-INF dir.
During deployment, there's no error, neither warning on the console. But, when I access the service's WSDL I was hoping to find some ws-security related stuff in there, but there was none, this was my first concern.
So I tried to access it using SOAPUI (I'll not try to run tests using jboss ws clients, since this service will be accessed using other languages like .net). Well, I did not set the certificate on SOAPUI on purpose, but I was expecting an error like "Not allowed", instead, a nullpointer was thrown:

It is my first time using WS-Sec on jbossws. I have used it before on glassfish. And the provider added few stuff on the WSDL to let the client know about the extensions to the WSDL.
I believe that my questions are:
1st: Does jbossws add this meta-data inside the secured service?
2nd: How do I get it running?

[Installation, Configuration & DEPLOYMENT] - startup jvm memory config suggestions

OS: Linux Red Hat Enterprise
We started getting PermGen errors on one of our servers. Before digging in to understand what this meant, my knee-jerk reaction was to just add more memory. We increased from 4GB to 8GB.
After digging in to PermGen more (reading until my eyes glossed over), I found the PermSize/MaxPermSize. After upgrading the memory, I tried changing the jvm config options to take advantage of the new memory. JBoss is about all that is running on that server so I'd like to give it as much memory as possible. I figured I could up -Xmx to 6GB and then up MaxPermSize to 256m, but I got startup errors when I did that. "not enough heap space" (and some other one that I can't remember). Here are the java-opts that I have now:
