When you have a connection opened, the server will ping the client from time to time. As you're not closing the connection you're getting this error. If you close the connection (which is the expected behavior) you won't have any ping failing under regular circumstances. Is there a put method we can call that doesn't cause replication? If so, we would not have to implement a CacheLoader, which would save a fair amount of time. I have already tried with passivation, and this seems to be what I was looking for. In a clustered environment, how does passivation works? Is there a master cache doing the passivation, or every cache will passivate its data whenever an evict event is triggered? The problem with JBC3.x is what we have longely talked in the forums. Not usable with JBossAS4.2.x. :-( Thanks Mircea. OK, that rules out some obscure timing issue, which could have been the problem if the url was http://localhost:8080/xxxxx. I cannot think of any plausible reason why an outbound connection would have an issue during jbossas startup (even jbossas itself has at time made such requests). All I can think of at this time to try turning off load-on-startup. Did you read the error message: Cause: Illegal character in path at index 18: file:/C:/Documents and Settings/... Did you count the letters to see what is at index 18? Many Java libraries balk at spaces in path names. You should move JBossAS out of "Documents and Settings". I have mine at d:/opt/jboss/jboss-4.2.2.GA.
