as far as cluster-enabling a Seam (EJB 3) app, all you need to do is the following: 1) add to web.xml 2) add @Clustered to your stateful session beans you can also configure your entity classes to be cached using Hibernate 2nd level cache. But as long as you do the two steps above, you don't need to worry. Keep in mind that if you're using mod_jk with IIS or httpd, make sure that sticky_sessions is enabled (this is a configuration that is highly recommended by JBoss). see Tomcat Connector info on JK. according to EJB 3 in action, the syncing happens at any of the following times (depends on app server implementation of syncing/caching): 1) end of EJB transaction 2) end of EJB method 3) when EJB container shuts down (node fails) so of these 3 possibilities, what does JBoss do? I tested this on 4.2.3 and 5.0 CR2. Works on 4.2.3 but not on 5.0 CR2. I looked at the source code of JBoss-4.2.x and JBoss-5. Looks like this is a bug in JBoss-5 where the interceptor (Ejb3AuthenticationInterceptorv2) doesn't seem to be popping the subject. If someone from the JBoss dev team confirms this, you might want to file a JIRA with a simple application demonstrating this issue.
