[JNDI and Naming] - Re: EJB (SLSB) invocation ignores read timeout, blocks indef

Thanks to another forum post by someone with a simlar issue (http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4250461), I found a way to "seed" the invoker proxy returned by JNDI lookup with a desired read timeout value, thus enforcing the timeout upon each invocation of a service within the bean. The timeout setting, somewhat counter-intuitively, is maintained on the server side rather than specified by the client; follow these steps to add the timeout value: (1) Edit server/CONF/deploy/ejb3.deployer/META-INF/jboss-service.xml (where CONF is the container configuration you are using) (2) Modify the mbean | <mbean code="org.jboss.remoting.transport.Connector" | name="jboss.remoting:type=Connector,name=DefaultEjb3Connector,handler=ejb3"> | (3) Alter the socket:// URI given by the InvokerLocator attribute to add the suffix /?timeout=#####, where ##### is the desired timeout value, in milliseconds Upon the change to the configuration, the new timeout value is reflected in the client-side TRACE logs referencing a number to which the timeout value is set (which previously indicated a blocking timeout of 0). Running the deliberate-stall test code detailed in the previous post produces a read timeout such as the following, where formerly it had stalled out: | java.lang.reflect.UndeclaredThrowableException | ... | Caused by: java.rmi.MarshalException: Socket timed out. Waited 5000 milliseconds for response while calling on InvokerLocator [socket://(node1):31516/?timeout=5000]; nested exception is: | ... | Caused by: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out | ... | It is confusing to me that this timeout is implemented as a server-side configuration rather than by obtaining it from the parameters (jnp.timeout and jnp.sotimeout) specified by the client when the JNDI context is created, since the latter option would seem to provide more flexibility to the client. As it stands, this solution would appear to apply to all remote invocations to all EJB3 services running on the app server. If anyone in the know regarding the design logic behind this approach would like to provide an explanation, I would be interested in hearing it. (For that matter, if anyone knows of an alternative way to produce the same timeout effect, I would be interested in that as well.) [Installation, Configuration & Deployment] - Encoding error windows vs linux

Hi. I have an application running on local machine, test server and server. This application hava a page thats uses lib commons-fileupload to upload a file and some data. This form is a multipart/form-data. Data is stored on Oracle 9i database and file to some folder. All aplication and files are set to iso-8859-1. All is running correctly on local machine and test server (jboss-3.2.8-sp1, jdk.1.5.0_12, windows xp), but when I put app to server (linux, with same jboss), forms that his enctype is multipart/form-data, some data's characters from form are corrupted and saved to database like in example: Data from form->fundaciÃ³n We get -> "fundaci?n" This only happends on server machine (linux). There are some configuration on jboss to resolve this problem? For the benefice of "enriqueam". My WorkAround is to create an MBean in the server that just do an unsuscribe on the subscription without consuming the messages. This removes the durable subscription and all of its messages. For this to work you have to make sure that your remoting bisocket config is changed from the default factory setting so that when the client goes down the server after some time will discard its connection. This allows the MBean to "steal" the durable subscription and to the unsubscribe. Otherwise, you would recive the error Cannot create a subscriber on the durable subscription since it already has subscriber(s) But the way the upgrade is on the radar, but I have to deal with an operational system. [jBPM Users] - Re: deploy() takes an awefully LONG time

Sure. Here you go... The complete log leading upto this. The time lag occurs between 9:33:57 to 9:35:43. This is when the deploy() runs. PS: Could this be a timeout thing? Does deploy() go out to the internet, and try to retrieve a DTD file or something like that? We are behind a proxy, so that could be a problem. Any help / pointers will be appreciated. Hi, If I have an invalidation cluster: | <clustering mode="invalidation"> | <stateRetrieval timeout="20000"/> | ... | What does stateRetrieval control in this case? Does it still control whether this cache JVM would retrieve all the objects from other cluster members? 2. If i have | <clustering mode="invalidation"> | <stateRetrieval timeout="20000" fetchInMemoryStafe="false"/> | | ... | Image I fist start a JVM and put 100 objects under 'xyz' node. Then i start up another JVM (part of the same invalidation cluster). I assume in this case no initial retrieval would take place. However, when i call 'xyz'.getChildren on the 'blank' jvm - will it start asking the neighbors for the all the xyz children or simply return empty collection because this particular node does not know anything about the other 100 children previously created by the first node?
