[Beginners Corner] - running JConsole on an app under JBoss 4.2.3

Hello, i added the basic -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote to the java options, but i get the following error when starting the app: 17:37:47,196 ERROR [BaseModelMBean] Exception invoking method init javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException: jboss.web:type=Host,host=localhost is not registered. if i remove the option, the app starts just fine. any ideas what i'm missing? That doesn't guarantee durability on your persistent messages. What if someone pull of the energy plug, kill -9 or a VM Crash? Shutdown is actually the safest of all of these events. It's simple.. or you can afford loosing messages, on which case you simply use NonPersistentMessages, or you can't.. on which case you *need* to persist them on the DB. Here's a new piece of info....I tried using "-b hostname" on another set of servers and they do not try to connect to my archenemy wizard, BUT none of the remote lookups work. [Installation, Configuration & DEPLOYMENT] - Configuring request.getRemoteUser() to not be null

request.getRemoteUser() for our app is returning null. I also created a simple test app with one jsp page that spits out request parameters, and those are null, too. These apps are SSL/PKI authenticated, and they prompt correctly for the certificate password, but won't pull the remoteUser off the user's ID card the way, e.g., OC4J does by default. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I'm now searching for the same functionality that bunkenburg described. Is there a way to set a request time in Tomcat? It would essentially be what maxIdleTime does for Jetty. [1] I'm looking for a global time out that will kill a Tomcat request thread if it has not responded by a certain timeout. I see the mod_jk settings mentioned above, but I have the same issue with them, which is that JBoss/Tomcat will still be trying to process the request, long after the client is gone. Does something like this even exist in Tomcat? I see connectionTimeout in server.xml but I realize that's not what I'm after. Cheers, Richard Taylor PIER Sytems, Inc. FYI this is likely the result of https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBPAPP-366. The bug is present in JBoss 4.2.3 (and presumably 4.2.2). [JBoss Portal] - Re: Dashboard configuration - drag and drop

Thanks for a quick response. I modified the jboss-portal.sar/conf/config.xml to change the following property to "dashboard" dashboard Also, i noticed that the "template" portal is defined in "/jboss-portal.sar/conf/data/default-object.xml" but it seems that it copies only the "template" portal defined here I have a separate war file for my application and that has all xml files specific to the portal I am building - i.e., it has its own portal-object.xml which is loaded correctly and i can access the pages in this portal - I renamed my portal defined in the portal-object.xml to "template" but when I access the dashboard it has the one defined in default-object.xml. I am going to try to remove the "template" portal from default-object.xml so that it has only one template portal and see if that will work - I had another question - it seems like there can be many portals running under a portal server but there can only be one dashboard. can there be more than one dashboard ?
