Yes, I wanted to detach() a local Object so it was no longer connected to the cache, and yet I wanted the Object to still remain in the cache. I wanted to have a local Object that was no longer connected to the cache and and would not affect the object that was stored in the cache. A copy of the object sounds like the best strategy.
