This was the problem with JBoss messaging not setting the validatorPingTimeout property in the client. I didn't understand that the timeout from the second thread whilst waiting for the "version" was the actual ping timeout going off. Got an early build of the next version of messaging from Red Hat and the client end validation timeout was set ok from the server config and there were no more resets.
