I've had the same problem since upgrading to JBoss 4.2.1 from 4.0.4 Adding the connection timeout in mod_jk helped it not happen as frequently, but it still happens. Changing the timeout for the ajp connection in the server.xml file for jboss web did nothing. I even made sure to install the newest version of the jk connector.
