Right, JBoss Portal at this point requires JBoss AS to run. The JBoss Portlet Container 2.0 doesn't have this requirement though. Slowly we are removing the dependencies on JBoss AS. This is not a problem of using too much JBoss AS Services, it "only" requires to move on the new microcontainer and delegate the services to another container or embed the JBoss AS ones. It is something we want to achieve but there are many other priorities. Contributions could help in that manner, this is not an easy task though.
