JBoss AS 4.2.3 is the older version and is sort of J2EE 1.4 with EJB3 support thrown in.
JBoss AS 5.0.0 is the very latest version and is full Java EE compliant; but has quite a
few problems (see the JBossAS5 forum for issues that people are seeing).
Whether you want 4.2.3 or 5.0.0, download the ZIP file that does not have "jdk6"
in its name. That one without "jdk6" in its name is for use with JDK5.
You mention mod_cluster. I assume you want to set up a cluster of JBoss AS instances and
front-end that with Apache HTTPD. If so, you need mod_jk:
