what you want to do is, if I understand well, : after login, all portlet have a state (stateA) then the user do things : some portlets goes into stateB, stateC etc... you want, by clicking a button, that all the portlets go back to stateA. => find a way to store or have each portlet to go to the stateA and use the IPC (inter portlet communication) to tell all the portlet to reset to stateA. but a portal is not supposed to work like that... so why not, but it may be a lot of work and trouble to reach this... hope this helps,...
