Yes portal-faces-lib is originally for internal usage, but feel free to use it. We had to change the classloading a bit for our own portlets so that they can work on JBoss AS 4.0 and 4.2 without any configuration and without affecting the other JSF portlets. The other reason is that we wanted the admin portlet and wsrp portlet to be able to live inside jboss-portal.sar.
