Just because there is a field it does not need to be filled out. The only ones that normally needs "filling" is project name (with a *valid* project name) and possibly hibernate-console.properties to point to a file that overrides any j2ee specific connection setup. And if you have multiple punits, the name of the one you want should be typed in to persistence unit field.
