I had the same problem with :
jboss-portal-2.4.0-CR3-bundled 
JDBC Connector and Version: Oracle 10.2.0.1 
Windows XP
Database: Oracle 10.2.0.1 XE

I tried jboss-portal-2.4.0-CR2-bundled, and it worked properly...
