A basic error like this typically means a corrupt download. Try downloading again. It works for me, though I have Vista and JDK 6u12 (64-bit). By the way, the AS + Portal bundle uses the JDK5-compliant version of JBoss AS. You will have problems with the WSRP component of Portal if you run the bundle with JDK6. The solutions are to either remove the WSRP component (delete the portal-wsrp.sar directory from within server/default/deploy/jboss-portal.sar) or use JDK5.
