I think as Facelets and Seam evolved, there was no longer a need for a special SeamFaceletViewHandler. Not sure about the FunctionMapperImpl - is it possible you have older EL configuration that is no longer compatible with the latest version of Seam? For example, my faces-config.xml is empty, and all I have for Seam in web.xml is the Seam filter, Seam listener and Seam Resource Servlet.
