If you scan the forum for this error, you will find that in every case (at least that I can remember) where this error showed up, the only way around it was to re-install JBossAS. For your description, it appears that you used yum or an RPM to install JBossAS. If so, instead try downloading the binary zip file from http://labs.jboss.com/jbossas/downloads/, unzipping it, and running bin/run.sh from there.
