[Beginners Corner] - Creating a socket inside a J2EE bean - jboss-user

Hi,

I'm accessing an application from a J2EE stateless bean through a socket and
everything is going fine, but some colleagues told me that doing it is a bad practice. 

Is bad practice to create a new socket inside a J2EE  stateless bean? If so, why and what
alternatives do I have?
