Thanks Weston for the extremely quick and informative reply! As a followup, I tried replacing REQUIRES_NEW with REQUIRED, but then my @TransactionTimeout() annotation is ignored. So currently (meaning "JBossAS 4.0.5") it seems as if I'll have to settle for REQUIRES_NEW and having some (successfully processed) messages go to the DLQ.
