No, the mail example won't work ootb on tomcat (it uses meldware as an smtp server
which doesn't support EEJB afaik).

You'll need to configure the mailSession in components.xml and set an SMTP gateway
(the SMTP server as you would configure in your favourite MUA).

I'll add a note to the docs/example about this.
