You're almost there (assuming that the button refreshes the table correctly). In your a:support tag change it to: <a:support event="onkeyup" action="#{staffCourseList.find}" reRender="dataTableStaffCourseList"/> This will update the value of classTitle in your Bean with each keystroke.
