I had a similar problem a while ago (http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=103675). Your users needs to have the role 'Authenticated'. I am using LDAP authentication as well. All my users have the role 'Authenticated'. Furthermore I have added all the roles I use in my LDAP server to the Portal database in order to be able to use these roles to define the access to my portal pages and portlets.
